Moving Information

Move-in is a much-anticipated event, and we know you have lots of questions. We’re here to make the process as smooth as possible. If you don’t find answers here, please call us at (248) 370-3570 or email [email protected].

Hamlin Hall

Your assigned move-in time
The fall 2024 move-in period will extend over two days, from Friday, August 30-Saturday, August 31, 2024. Incoming residents may schedule a move-in appointment for a convenient date and time using the instructions provided below.

Please note that all fall 2024 residents must pick up the key to their University Housing assignment by September 13, 2024.


How to schedule a move-in appointment:

  • Please note that you will not be able to schedule a move-in appointment until July 24, 2024.
  • Log in to the My Housing portal using your Net ID and password.
  • In the Assignments section of the home page, under Fall 2024 Move-In, click on Select Time Block.
  • From the drop-down menu that appears, select the time slot during which you would like to move in.
  • Click on Update My Time to complete the process.
  • If you would like to change your appointment time prior to your move-in, you may do so using the same instructions as they are listed above. When you select a new time, your old move-in appointment will automatically be cancelled.

Helpers
Each resident may bring no more than two helpers to assist with the move-in process. 
 

Health and safety advance planning requirement
Prior to moving onto campus, residents are asked to identify the plan of action they will enact if they are required to isolate as the result of a contagious illness that may endanger the larger residential population.

Identifying an intended isolation location will be an essential part of creating an advance plan of action. Residents who are diagnosed with a contagious illness that has been identified as a potential threat to the residential population will be expected to leave campus to isolate, and to convalesce at their permanent residence, unless prohibited by highly specific circumstances.

You will find instructions on how to complete your advance plan under Health and Safety Advance Planning on our Keeping Residents Safe webpageCompletion of the advance planning process is required in order to move onto campus.

Arriving and unloading
Those moving into Hamlin Hall should enter through the University's West Oakland entrance off of East Walton Blvd. on their assigned move-in day.

Please park in parking lot P-5 or P-3 to unload your belongings. Someone in your party will need to move your car immediately once it has been emptied of your possessions. No cars will be permitted to remain parked in these lots or to park along the road during the move-in period.

Once emptied, cars may be temporarily parked in nearby lots P-11, and the P-29 parking structure. Cars that will be left overnight will need to be parked in spaces designated for overnight parking. These include lots P-11 and all covered levels of the P-29 parking structureLots P-3 and P-5 may also be utilized for overnight parking once the move-in period has concluded. Overnight parking spaces are designated with green lines.

Moving carts will be available for check out. Picture ID will be required to check out a cart.

Key pick-up
You may pick up your key inside Hamlin Hall, at the Hamlin Service Desk. Please note that all fall 2024 residents must pick up the key to their University Housing assignment by September 13, 2024

Bed lofting
If you would like to loft your bed, you may obtain the necessary materials to do so at the service desk in your community. This helpful video tutorial provides step-by-step instructions on how to loft your bed. Homemade lofts are not permitted.

Students who are new to Oakland University should provide an official copy of their full immunization record to the Graham Health Center. If you were born and raised in Michigan, you can create an account and access your full immunization record hereIf you are not a local resident, please contact your primary care provider for a copy of your immunization record.

Once you have obtained your immunization record, the record can 
can be uploaded to the Graham Health Center patient portal by sending a secure message with an attachment.

Please park in parking lot P-34 or P-36 to unload your belongings. Someone in your party will need to move your car immediately once it has been emptied of your possessions. No cars will be permitted to remain parked in these lots or to park along the road during the move-in period.

Once emptied, cars may be parked in nearby lot P-35, and the P-32 parking structure. Cars that will be left overnight will need to be parked in spaces designated for overnight parking. These include lots P-35, and all covered levels of the P-32 parking structure. Overnight parking spaces are designated with green lines in parking lots.

Moving carts will be available for check out. Picture ID will be required to check out a cart.

Moving carts will be available for check out. Picture ID will be required to check out a cart.

Key pick-up
You may pick up the key to your room inside the 4000 building of the Ann V. Nicholson apartments. Please note that all fall 2024 residents must pick up the key to their University Housing assignment by September 13, 2024.

OU does not assume any liability for the loss, damage or theft of any personal property. To protect your property, you should purchase renter’s insurance or check your parent’s or legal guardian’s homeowners insurance to see if your personal property is covered. Renter’s insurance can be purchased through a variety of insurance agencies.

Oakland University provides much of the furniture as well as other housing items for students who live on campus. Below, please find a list of additional items you may wish to bring, as well as a list of items that are prohibited.
